When things settle down, I’ll be able to focus on my health.
News flash: things never settle down. It’s always something. Always. It’s either kids, work, vacation, family, or illness. It’s also self-inflicted with adding things to the calendar like date night or brunch with friends.
There is never a perfect time to start. There is never… perfect. Waiting for “perfect” is just an excuse to not prioritize yourself.
When things settle down, I’ll be able to focus on my health.
Notice how I said health. Not weight. Not meal planning. Not exercise.
Health.
Because that’s what it is. It’s easier to put yourself on the back burner when you think of it only as losing the mom pooch or cleaning up 15 lbs. It’s easier to put yourself on the back burner when your goals are rooted in vanity.
I’m not going to let it be that easy for you. Your “goal” should be health. A healthy body. A healthy mind. A healthy relationship with food, exercise, and yourself.
It is NOT healthy to put yourself at the bottom of the list of priorities. It is NOT healthy to run yourself all day and finally close your eyes at 11 p.m. It is NOT healthy to starve yourself during the day because you want to lose weight all to binge at night. It is NOT healthy to sit 90% of the day and get less than 6,000 steps.
Literally everything and everybody on your list of priorities will be better served by a better you. A you that has a solid sleep routine. A you that has consistent and balanced meals planned and ready. A you that takes breaks from the sedentary life and gets sunshine and steps. A you that knows that not every day will go as planned, but you have created a life with balance and will focus on what you can do today while preparing for a better tomorrow.
This workout was 1 of 4 from last week. The only 4 I knew for sure I could fit in. So I made those days a priority. I looked at my schedule and made an appointment with myself. I literally time-blocked my workout as if it was an appointment with someone else. A meeting with a real estate client. A call with a coaching client. Those are all on my calendar and I wouldn’t dream of missing one of those. Why on earth would I cheat myself out of this same level of importance?
Meals— same concept. I can tell you exactly what I’m eating all week minus the handful of events I have. And the days of those events will be modified to accommodate the change in calories from eating out.
Having a plan that teaches you how to navigate real life is of the utmost importance. Not so you can have a 6-pack or killer quads, but so you can have health. True health.
How about this instead: “When things settle down, I’ll be able to enjoy the health I’ve created by making myself a priority over the years”.
That’s the real goal
